Preparation for the new school year 2022 – 2023

The admissions process for the new 1st grade students for the 2022-2023 school year is in its final stages.

In the last two school years (2020 – 2021 and 2021 – 2022) there were some interruptions in classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to the admissions for the new first classes that are now definitely coming, the new students are already being introduced to the upcoming school life.

CARE & FAIR: 25 years of commitment

For twenty-five years now, CARE & FAIR has been working together with importers, retailers and carpet producers to fight illegal child labour and improve living conditions for carpet knotters and their families.

We have raised around 11 million EUR through membership fees, donations and import and export duties, and through sponsorship money collected in Germany, India and Pakistan.

Our well-thought-out and lean structures mean that only around 15% of this went on administrative costs in Germany – and less than 7% in the countries of origin – allowing us to directly invest approx.  9 million EUR in various different projects.

Considering that CARE & FAIR is financed entirely through membership and donations, this is something we can be proud of. A look at our »highlights« from the last 25 years also show this. Thousands of children in India, Nepal and Pakistan have received a school education thanks to CARE & FAIR, and some even a university degree. In the clinics we supported, injuries both large and small were treated and illnesses cured, and more and more women are gaining independence for themselves through our education programme. Child labour in the carpet industry is rarely reported, but CARE & FAIR has made a decisive contribution to changing this situation.

The financial support of our members has allowed us to increase parents’ awareness of the importance of allowing their children to go to school, and to support schools, clinics and educational programs.

While early on our funds came mainly from Germany, today we also receive considerable sums from all over the world – including Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Canada, the USA and Australia.

Sponsors often offer us several years’ support for a specific project. This helps us to plan reliably for the long-term. Many sponsors regularly visit “their” projects and offer their own ideas for their further development.

Of course, our work with the association also presents us with some challenges. With the declining number of carpet imports, our income and thus our opportunities to support children working in the knotting regions are declining.

We aim to meet these challenges by actively seeking and finding solutions. Despite financial restrictions in recent years, we have been able to maintain all of CARE & FAIR projects in India and Pakistan.

We look forward to many more successful years with you at our side.
We’ll keep you posted.

Warm regards,

Volker Heinrich

CARE & FAIR: 25 years of commitment II

We want to look into the future, in order that we can continue to promote and support children in the knotting regions as well as we can. Join CARE & FAIR in this mission!

Even the smallest donation is a great help…
… and a larger donation can work miracles.

We would be delighted if YOU also helped to secure our existing projects and make new ones possible.

Our warmest thanks for your support!

Over the past 25 years, numerous people and companies around the world have supported CARE & FAIR and made a decisive contribution to our work.

With small, large, single or regular donations and contributions. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported CARE & FAIR in its work financially, and to all of our voluntary colleagues and long-standing employees on the three country boards in Germany, India and Pakistan. And we don’t want to forget our former board members and colleagues in Nepal.

Here is a brief list of CARE & FAIR’s most important supporters:

Volker Heinrich Orient – Teppich – Import GmbH, Hamburg (Germany)
Formerly ICT Intertrade Carpet AG, Zug (Switzerland)
John Lewis Foundation, London (Great Britain)
Formerly Wissenbach, Pohlheim (Germany)
ICE MARCJANSSEN, Waardenburg (Netherlands)

SN-Verlag, Hamburg (Germany) – Together with CARE & FAIR, SN Verlag built a school in India and sponsored it for five years. We were supported by free advertisements and articles in their carpet magazine.

They all committed themselves to our projects out of conviction, giving us their valuable time and accepting financial sacrifices. Over the course of our 25-year existence, they have steered CARE & FAIR’s destiny, making our association what it is today and continuing to encourage us in our work. This gives us the confidence to look to the future full of energy and drive to further improve the living conditions of people in the carpet knotting regions!

Through your commitment and financial help, we have been able to achieve great results. We hope that you will continue to support us, so that we can go on enabling the knotting families and there children to determine their own lives in the future.
