Barakat School

This school was run by a voluntary village committee until CARE & FAIR took over operations in 1997. As the necessary funds were lacking, regular lessons were not possible; there were neither materials nor school uniforms, and the roof was leaky. Moreover, most of the parents whose children attended the school were too indigent and thus not able to pay the required tuition. CARE & FAIR initially provided renovation and expansion by two additional classrooms. After a successful start CARE & FAIR was given a plot of land behind the school. The foundation-stone for the new building was laid here in April 2000. One part of the expenses was taken on by the American company Barakat Inc., who also shoulders teachers’ salaries and current expenses, for the time being. A school doctor examines the children’s health on a regular basis.
